The Return of Brian Potter

Comedian Peter Kay, known for his iconic portrayal of Brian Potter in the cult British series Phoenix Nights from 2001 to 2002, has dropped exciting hints about the character's potential return to the big screen. While Kay briefly reprised the role for a Comic Relief special in 2003, fans have longed for a full-scale revival of the series.

In his upcoming memoir, "TV: Big Adventures on the Small Screen," a sequel to his best-selling 2007 autobiography, "The Sound of Laughter," Kay opens up about the possibility of bringing Brian Potter back in a feature film. He shares, "I'm still full of ideas. Just today, I thought of Brian enlisting Young Kenny to paint an enormous 'H' on the club's roof, pretending it's a helicopter pad. Of course, the chances of a real helicopter landing there are zero. With each passing year, I find myself becoming more like Brian, but if Phoenix Nights were to rise again, it would have to be for something truly special perhaps a film? Imagine Brian encountering three ghosts. Now, wouldn't that be something?"

Phoenix Nights originally emerged as a spin-off of Kay's comedy series, "That Peter Kay Thing." The TV show featured co-creators Neil Fitzmaurice and Dave Spikey, along with Paddy McGuinness, known for hosting "Take Me Out" and frequently collaborating with Kay.

Peter Kay's earlier memoir, "The Sound of Laughter," holds the record as the top-selling hardback autobiography of all time in the UK.

The release of his new book coincides with an extensive UK stand-up tour, marking Kay's return to the stage after a hiatus of 12 years. His absence from the public eye began in 2017 when he canceled several scheduled projects for undisclosed personal reasons.

In December 2022, during the inaugural performance of his comeback tour at Manchester's AO Arena, Kay was visibly moved as the audience gave him a standing ovation.

Reflecting on his forthcoming memoir "TV," Kay expressed, "I've harbored the desire to write about my lifelong passion for television and my experiences in the industry for years. Recounting the adventures of the last 25 years, both in front of and behind the camera, has been an immense pleasure. I hope readers will enjoy the journey as much as I've relished chronicling it."
