Cruise Ship Proposal Surprise
Viewers of This Morning were treated to an unexpected dose of romance when Monday’s live broadcast came to a brief halt for a special announcement from presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley. Halfway through the programme, Cat couldn’t contain her excitement as she revealed that a beloved member of the production team had just taken a huge step in his personal life. “At the end of last week, our lovely art director Matty got engaged to his partner of 10 years, Luke,” she told viewers, her words met with cheers and applause as the camera panned to a delighted Matty.
Ben then shared how the proposal unfolded in spectacular fashion during the couple’s recent cruise holiday. With the help of none other than singer and TV icon Jane McDonald, Matty orchestrated a truly memorable moment at sea. A clip aired showing Jane pausing her live performance to call Matty on stage, teasing the couple about their decade-long romance before encouraging him to finally pop the question. The crowd erupted as Matty went down on one knee and asked Luke to marry him — a proposal that had reportedly been months in the making.
As the video concluded, the This Morning studio filled with smiles and applause, with Ben and Cat offering heartfelt congratulations to the newly engaged pair and thanking Jane for playing Cupid. Known for her hit travel series Cruising with Jane McDonald, the singer seemed the perfect partner-in-crime for a nautical love story.
The rest of the show went on to feature TOWIE star Pete Wicks chatting about his latest TV project, skincare expert Nadine Baggott sharing winter beauty tips, and Sian Welby delivering the latest entertainment buzz. Yet it was Matty’s mid-ocean proposal that stole the spotlight — proving that love stories can surface in the most unexpected places.
