Peter Kay Forced Offstage
Peter Kay has been forced to cancel two upcoming tour dates after undergoing a routine medical procedure. The beloved comedian, 52, announced the news on social media, revealing he would be taking time to recover following treatment for kidney stones.
The cancellations affect his Nottingham Motorpoint Arena shows scheduled for October 5 and 6. His statement reassured fans that he would rest as advised by doctors: “Following medical advice, Peter will be taking a period of time to rest and recover.”
Kay’s ongoing Better Late Than Never… Again! tour has been making headlines since he returned to the stage in late 2022 after a 12-year break. Demand for tickets has been so overwhelming that the tour now stretches well into 2025, cementing his status as one of Britain’s most enduring entertainers.
While the cancellations may disappoint fans, Kay’s career remains in full swing. Earlier this year, he revealed plans for his first deeply personal memoir, cheekily titled Peter Kay’s Diary: The Monthly Memoir of a Boy from Bolton. The book promises a mix of reflections, anecdotes, and trademark humour, structured as a year-long diary of his life.
The announcement comes after a turbulent few months on stage, where Kay has clashed with hecklers but also doubled down on his no-nonsense style of audience control — even poking fun at previous controversies during his O2 Arena shows.
From his breakout win at Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny? in 1997 to creating cult classics like Phoenix Nights, Kay has built a career blending northern wit with nationwide appeal. Despite occasional setbacks, he continues to find ways to surprise fans—whether on stage, on screen, or soon, in print.
